President & CEO
Jason Craven is the founder of Southern Botanical. He plays an active role in all daily facets of the company. Beginning his career in high school, Jason was so successful in running a small landscaping team that he chose to follow his entrepreneurial aspirations of starting his own company.
In 2012, he was named the Young Leader of the Year for the Texas Nursery & Landscape Association. He was elected and remains the Director of Region IV for the Board of Directors of this association. In addition, he currently serves on the Finance Committee.
His career has been critiqued by MBA students at the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University.
He is also active in his church and community through many volunteer efforts including St. John’s Episcopal School and the Dallas Center for the Developmentally Challenged.
Vice President, People and Culture
Alan Richmond is responsible for our corporate culture and recruiting, growth and development of our Team. Alan joined Southern Botanical after leading the Business Development efforts for Hydromulch Services, a DFW leader in Seeding Services. Before that, he was a Quality Assurance Manager in the 767 and 747 groups for Boeing (NYSE: BA) in Seattle, WA.
He has a Bachelor of Business Administration from City University in Seattle, Washington. Alan is an Accredited Professional with ARCSA, the American Rainwater Catchment Systems Association.
Currently, Alan is Vice Chair of the Membership Committee of the Irrigation Association and a member of the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) Education Advisory Board. He is also designated as a WaterSense Partner with the EPA.
Alan has been married over 30 years and has 4 grown boys. He loves to build furniture from reclaimed wood, plays drums, and loves everything outdoors. He is active in his church and as a Boy Scouts of America leader.
Director of Operations
Deven Tenney is responsible for overseeing the sales and production operations for Southern Botanical.
Deven joined our team after 21 years with Sewell Automotive Companies. Starting with Sewell soon after graduating from Texas A&M University with a BBA in Management, he worked his way upwards in the organization through different roles and dealerships to eventually become Fixed Operations Director for Sewell Cadillac Dallas, the largest General Motors service facility in the nation. The dealership has earned ‘Dealer of the Year’ for 41 consecutive years and was ranked in the top 1% of the region for customer retention.
During his professional career, Deven has completed programs from Harvard Business School, UVA Darden School of Business, SMU Cox School of Business, Dale Carnegie, PPG MVP Lean Process, American Management Association, Center for Creative Leadership, Jeff Sacks Financial Management, and Steve Mulvany.
He served on the General Motors Brookhaven ASEP advisory board, the Universal Technical Institute Dallas advisory board, and the dealer fixed operations panels for the Saab and Hummer automotive brands.
Deven is married and has three children. He is active in his local church and serves on his local school board.
Director of Finance
Dale oversees all financial operations at Southern Botanical. He began his foray into the landscape industry with Southern Botanical starting in 2007 as Finance Manager and then becoming Director of Finance soon thereafter.
Prior to joining the Southern Botanical team, Dale worked with Neiman Marcus. First in their Accounts Payable department and later in their Sales Promotion area on the finance team that supported Neiman’s fast-paced internal advertising agency. In 1999, he took a position with the Nokia Mobile Phones Product Creation Center in Irving where he supported new and exciting handset projects as the mobile phone industry grew at a frenetic pace.
Dale holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from the University of Oklahoma and an MBA from the Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University.
He has been active in PLANET and TNLA, acting as Region IV’s Treasurer since 2013 and Vice-Chairman for 2015-2016. In his spare time, Dale enjoys reading non-fiction, playing with his two young children and traveling to watch Sooner football games.
Director of Garden Management
Tommy Silvers is responsible for leading Southern Botanical’s Garden Management business. Tommy joined Southern Botanical in 2008 as a Project Manager on the Landscape Team. In 2010 he transitioned to the Garden Management Team as the Manager of Operations and earned a promotion to Director. Prior to joining Southern Botanical, he served 7 years with ValleyCrest Landscape Maintenance in Dallas where he began as a Crew Foreman, and was promoted through the ranks to an Account Manager.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Agronomy from Texas A&M in 2001, and places great value on the professional relationships that have resulted from his years in the industry.
Tommy is married, has two children, and is very involved in their extracurricular activities and community events.
Director of Landscape
Tommy Cole is responsible for landscape construction operations at Southern Botanical. Tommy started his career in landscape design and architecture where his experience included high-end residential design, environmental planning, park master planning, and landscape reclamation in Arizona and California. His love for construction started with a move back to Texas where he headed up the landscape and irrigation division of Rodman Construction.
Tommy has a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture from Texas Tech University. He currently serves as an Advisory Council Member on the Membership Committee of the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP), on the Business Category Council of the Texas Nursery & Landscape Association (TNLA), he is an active member of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA), a committee member of the Design Build Group for the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP), and has served as Co-Chairman of the Specialty Interiors Group of NALP.
Tommy is married with two young children. In his free time, it’s all about spending time with his kids.
Risk and Asset Manager
Jorge has been with Southern Botanical since 2004 and has been instrumental in training and promoting the company’s “Benchmark” and safety culture. In his current position, Jorge is responsible for safety and security, risk and fleet, and equipment and asset management.
Mr. Gomez has been involved in the green industry since 1983. He has experience in virtually every aspect of the business – including being a licensed irrigator, chemical applicator, safety regulator, estimator, trainer and more. He is active in the National Association Of Landscape Professionals’ Safety Committee and contributes safety articles to their publications.
He enjoys his role as father of 3 and grandfather to 4.
Branch Managing Partner
Kyle Cahill is responsible for all growth and development of Southern Botanical’s branch in Houston, Texas. Kyle joined Southern Botanical as an intern in 2007 and started his career as a Project Manager in 2009. He served in this role for 5 years before being promoted to Director of Landscape. After one year in this position he was chosen to start Southern Botanical’s first branch in Houston, Texas.
He has a Bachelor of Science in Horticulture from Texas A&M University. He also holds his Texas Certified Landscape Professional certificate from the Texas Nursery and Landscape Association.
Currently, Kyle serves as Chair of the Certification Committee for TNLA and on an Advisory Board at Houston Community College to help develop curriculum for the Horticulture Program.
Kevin Smith leads the accounting and finance organization within Southern Botanical.
Kevin joined our team in early 2016. He has held leadership roles in the accounting and finance organizations of various companies during his career, including Digital Generation, Michaels Stores, and Keys Fitness. He began his career at KPMG serving nearly 6 years in the Dallas audit department. He is a certified public accountant and holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Texas A&M University in College Station with majors in accounting and finance. He earned a Master of Business Administration degree in 1993 from The University of Texas at Arlington.
Kevin is married and has three children. He enjoys running for fitness, reading and spending time with his family. He is active in his local church and Boy Scouts of America.
